Privacy policy

Last updated: 22 October 2026

Better Deen (“the app”) is developed by an independent team. This policy explains what data the app uses, where it is stored and how you can delete it. The app has no ads, uses no analytics or trackers and sells no data to anyone.

Data that stays on your phone

Your logged prayers, streaks, journal, dhikr, fasts, saved verses and hadiths, your Qur'an reading time, your Listen favourites, playlists and history, the last flight you enter, your settings and your Ask Deen history are stored only on your device. Prayer times and the Qibla are calculated on the phone itself.

Location

The app uses your location (approximate or precise, as you allow) to calculate prayer times and the Qibla direction. It is stored on your phone and not sent to our servers. To show your city's name, the operating system (Android or iOS) may use its own geocoding service. When you travel, the app checks your location again when you open it, only if you already gave permission; you can turn this off in Settings. On a plane, the “Qibla now” screen uses GPS only while it is open.

Account and cloud copy (optional)

You can use the app without an account. If you create one (with email, Google or Apple), we store:

  • your email and how you sign in;
  • a copy of the app's data (the same data kept on your phone, including the journal), so you can restore it on another device;
  • a random identifier and the model of the active device, because an account can only be used on one device at a time.

This data is stored with Supabase (servers in the European Union, Ireland), in private storage only your account can access. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we only receive your email and an account identifier.

Subscriptions and payments

Subscriptions are bought through Google Play or the App Store, which handle the payment: we never see your card or bank details. We use RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., United States) to know whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat receives the store's receipt for your purchase, an app identifier and, if you have an account, your account's identifier. The promise not to be able to pay (“I can't pay”) is stored only on your phone.

Ask Deen

The questions you ask Ask Deen, with a few earlier messages of the conversation, the school you chose and the language, are sent to our server and to an AI provider, first to check that the question is about Islam or a Muslim's life and then to answer it. The provider is currently Google Gemini; on its free tier, Google may use questions and answers to improve its products. Don't include personal data in your questions. We keep how many questions you ask per day (for the daily limit) and, only if you send them, your ratings and reports of answers, with the question and the answer.

The Arena (optional)

To play in the Arena you need an account and a player profile. Other players can see your player name, the country and picture you choose, your rating, your position in the rankings and your badges. We store your matches (when, against which rating, the result and the rating change), your friends and friend requests, and reports you send about player names. Your religious practice (prayers, Qur'an reading, dhikr) is never part of the Arena. If you win a prize, we contact you at your account's email.

Qur'an recitations, hadiths and sounds

Recitations are streamed or downloaded, when you ask, from cdn.islamic.network, everyayah.com and mp3quran.net, and the reciters' catalogue is refreshed from mp3quran.net about once a week. Large hadith collections are downloaded only if you ask, from cdn.jsdelivr.net. As with any download, these servers receive your IP address.

Accessibility permission (Android, optional)

Salah Focus and Qur'an first use Android's accessibility service only to know which app is being opened (its package name), so they can show the prayer or Qur'an screen instead of the apps you choose. It doesn't read what's on the screen or what you type, and this information never leaves your phone. It's only on if you grant it in the system settings.

Reviews on the website

If you send a review from the website, we store your name, the city you write (optional), your rating, your text and the language of the page. Nothing is published until we read it, and only if you agreed to it. To limit spam, we keep for that day a code derived from your IP address (never the address itself) and delete it once the review has been read. To have your review removed, write to us.

Contact

If you write to us from the app, the message is sent with your own email app and includes device information only if you choose so.

Deleting your data

  • Account: Settings → Account → Delete account permanently deletes your account, its cloud copy, your Arena profile and matches.
  • Phone data: deleted when you uninstall the app or clear its data in the system settings.
  • Subscriptions: cancel them in your store account; deleting the account doesn't cancel them.
  • You can also ask us to delete any data by writing to saydencinasfedi@gmail.com. See also how to delete your account.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their data. The Arena is for players aged 16 and over.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date above.
